Muskoka Tour Part 1

Muskoka Loop

Itinerary

The charming village of Port Carling is on the Indian River, the connecting waterway between Lakes Muskoka and Rosseau.   The total distance of this tour, described below, is 21 km.  We meet at Hannah Park in Port Carling – 10:00am rigging; 10:30 launch.

 

Row:

Our tour will start at Hannah Park, heading south along the serene Indian River and into Lake Muskoka.  Lake Muskoka is the largest Muskoka lake noted for its spectacular scenery and aspirational cottages.  We will pass Horseshoe and Keewaydin Island on their north shores, then follow the eastern shore of the lake into Milford Bay (Baycliffe Park).  After lunch, we will row out the south end of the Bay, and follow the outside of Tondern Island, often called Millionaire’s Row.  Our route will then cut through the Seven Sisters and back into the river, returning to Hannah Park.

 

Degree of difficulty: Intermediate, open water with some boat traffic.

 

Note:  Toilets are available at the launch and lunch sites.

 


 

Muskoka Tour – Part 2

Rosseau Loop

Itinerary

Lake Rosseau is another gorgeous Muskoka lake and the home of Windemere House, the Lady of the Lake.  The total distance of this tour, described below, is about 17 km.  We meet at Hannah Park in Port Carling for a 9:30 launch.

Row: 

Our tour will start at Hannah Park, heading north along Indian River to the Port Carling Lock.  We will go through the lock and follow the river into Lake Rosseau.  The row will then head east to East Portage Bay, passing Caledonia Island.  The route will then wind between Florence and Wellesley Island, then north to Maple Leaf Bay, where Windemere House will act as our landmark.  We will be stopping here in the village of Windemere, for a group lunch at the New Baldwin Inn.  Each rower is responsible for purchasing their own lunch.  The row back will be the most direct route to Indian River.

 

Degree of difficulty:  Intermediate, open water with some boat traffic, lock.
