After a couple of interruptions in 2020 and 2022, OAR is reviving and hosting the Icicle Chase this year, on Saturday 14 October. It’s a circumnavigation of Wilson Island in the Trent River, just north of Trenton. It’s within reach of both Ottawa and Toronto (and everywhere in between): no need for overnight stays. One side of Wilson Island is the main Trent River, while the other side is a meandering channel.
The route is 20 km long. Participants should arrive at 9 am. Starting time will be 10 am. We will row in touring quads with cox (boats and oars will be supplied by OAR). You can look at it as a challenge – times will be recorded – or as a relaxed tour, as you prefer. Competitive types should enter as a crew. Others can enter individually and extra crews will be formed on the day. We will be based at Island Park RV Resort. Directions to the resort, and other details, will be provided to registrants later. At Island Park RV Resort, there is an excellent beach launch spot, a nice lawn with picnic tables (and palm trees!), and washrooms. There will be a hot lunch for all, after the row.
The entry fee is $50 per person, or $225 for a crew (5 persons). Direct any questions to Peter Jepson at jepjepjeppo@gmail.com . Send in your entries, using the correct form, by Sunday 30 September.
